Cyprus possesses approximately 1,800 species of flowering plants, 8% of which are endemic. Many of its species can be found on the Island alone. The beauty of the wild flowers is best enjoyed in the early spring and late autumn which is the time many blossom for a short period and an array of colour can be seen. The best areas in which to partake in ‘flower spotting’ are that of the Akamas Peninsular and the Troodos Mountains.

Cyprus benefits from an intense Mediterranean climate. The largest mountain range in Cyprus is known as the Troodos. The highest peak is known as Mount Olympus and can be found at a height of 1,952 meters. In the winter the Troodos turns into a winter wonderland, making it possible for visitors to take pleasure in skiing.
The currency currently used in Cyprus is known as the Cypriot Pound, or, unofficially, the Cyprus Lira(pound). It was introduced in 1879, and was originally equal in value to the pound sterling until Cyprus became independent in 1960. There are 100 cents to the pound. The denominations available are as follows: in coins 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, and in notes 1, 5, 10 and 20 pounds. It is said that from the 1st of January 2008 the new currency will be Euro. The exchange rate is yet to be decided.
